The Makeblock DIY Ultimate Robot Kit, Product Overview
If your kids are like mine. They love to play with computers, tablets, video games, and even new technical devices. Toys like the Makeblock DIY Ultimate Robot is a perfect match between fun and educational.
The components that make up the robot are similar to an erector set. This robot has the potential to spark your child’s imagination in ways neither of you are aware of. The robot has to be assembled. This teaches the skills of wiring electronics and and connecting mechanical components.
In my blog I constantly promote robots that teach as well as entertain. This robot does not disappoint. For the beginners starting out with robotics the Blocky interface is helpful. Blocky is very similar to plugging logic puzzle pieces together. Depending on how your child assembles the pieces they program the movements and activities the robot carries out.
This robot though advertised as a toy is actually a real robot that can be customized into 10 different robots. This provides continuous educational experiences each time your child builds one of the other versions of the robot configurations.
Toys that teach as well as entertain give our kids a way of learning without realizing it. When they are having fun and doing what they enjoy. The learning aspect was simply how they got the robot to do what they wanted it to do.
Many schools and STEM programs are adopting these robots for sparking a desire in our children for learning technology. The more we introduce them to devices that bridge the gap between learning and fun. The more likely our kids are to pursue their passions.
- Robotic Arm Tank, Catapult Ram, Self-Balancing Robot, Robotic Ant, are just a few of the variations to be built by your child.
- Learn programming with Python and Arduino
- Learn electronics, robotics, and graphical programming with Blocky
- Compatible with iOS, Android, Kindle, and Windows Operating Systems (OS)
- Anodized 6061 aluminum mechanical parts containing threaded slots for easy assembly of the robot.
- The kit is complete with three powerful encoder motors.
- Use Bluetooth connectivity to control the robot on any smart device.
MegaPi operates with Arduino which is a free (Open Source) programming language. Since MegaPi supports Arduino it makes learning with the Makeblock Robot Kit a valuable asset.
This along with the Python programming language allows your teen to develop even more programming skills. The more advanced they become with their coding. They will build confidence to tackle more complex skills. This robot can be the catapult that provides a technical future. As of four wonderful children I remember what it was like trying to capture their interest in technology.
When my kids were growing up computer robots were about the best we could do. This level of robot kit wasn’t available at least not as affordable as the Makeblock Ultimate.
The only con I have with this robot is the erector set style parts that make up the robot body. These pieces make the assembly easy, but gives the childish look. Since this is only a cosmetic issue I only took ½ a point off and rated this robot a 9.5 out of 10. You can see per the image above this robot got Amazon’s Choice label.
